The World Games Will Run on Solar Power

The World Games are like the ugly sister of the Olympic Games but you wouldn’t say so judging by the Stadium in which they are going to be held. Behold the largest solar powered stadium in the world.
Beautiful isn’t she! With over 8844 solar panels lining the roof, this stadium in Kaohsiung, Taiwan is able to generate a potential 1.14 gigawatts hours of electricity every year, apparently that’s enough to supply power to 80% of the surrounding neighborhood. This stadium makes me wonder why other stadiums around the world haven’t adopted a similar approach. Now I’m not complaining about South Africa’s stadiums, they are incredibly amazing especially Soccer City and Greenpoint Stadium but being a country that has the fortune to have year round sunshine, shouldn’t we have used solar technology. Just a thought.
